OIL

There is no environmental damage when drilling for oil. SEE!

From the Patch
Expert report by National Research Council concludes that harmful environmental and social effects from three decades of Alaska oil drilling will likely increase as exploration expands, despite greatly improved drilling practices; warns that some of problems could last for centuries because damage does not heal easily in harsh climate of North Slope and it is uneconomical to remove structures or restore damaged areas; graph; map; report was requested by Republican lawmakers who support drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; panel chairman Dr Gordon H Orians points to lack of state or federal rules on planning or cleanup (M)

The Bush administration claims that only a small amount of land will be used for drilling in ANWR, they do not included infrastructure other then drilling pads. (Roads, pipelines, housing, processing plants.)

BP Amoco, the corporation that has applied for exploratory oil drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, has admitted to the illegal disposal of tens of thousands of gallons of toxic waste in its current oil production grounds on Alaska's North Slope.

Anchorage, Alaska - A state investigator from Fairbanks is in Anchorage tonight looking into allegations of a fairly serious incident on the North Slope.

An oil company whistleblower is claiming that there was an unreported blowout on the Slope last month, an uncontrolled gush of oil, drilling mud and gas that could have resulted in a fire.
Washington -- Once the North Slope oil is gone, it will cost the oil companies billions of dollars to dismantle all the buildings, roads and gravel. But the state of Alaska has required that the companies post bonds of only $500,000 to cover all their oil and gas leasing on state land, the General Accounting Office noted in a report it is releasing this week ( July 2002 )

( By law, public land must be restored after drilling ceases. )

Patch has also read that 95% of the north slope is open for oil exploration. Why ruin ANWR?
Patch has said it before, if we need oil, go head and drill. But this deal isn't because we need oil, this deal is of course about money. Alaska receives most of its revenue from oil. But the worse thing in Patches eye is that the conservatives just can't stand places they can't exploit. Patch and Rob may never get to the ANWR, but we don't consider that a reason not to care about it. Patch and Rob urge to contact your representatives and tell them no. Hay if ever comes about we really need the oil here. it will still be there.
